Hypnerotomachia Poliphili

Replica of the most beautiful book ever from the XV° century.
Imprimatur by the great humanist Aldus Manuzio. Yes, the “Hypnerotomachia Poliphili” is here, after a year (or most) of hard work. I think there are not a bibliophile who doesn’t know this extraordinary book, containing more than 170 amazing woodcuts between a text layout absolutely WONDERFUL. A wonder where the proportions between text blocks and images seem to steal the secrets of the golden rectangle and the harmonic style of the classical period.
The book, attributed to the Dominican monk Francesco Colonna, is a journey of initiation and dream through a symbolism that can be found encoded within each xilographic. Images seems silent, lunar, evoking meditations into the Apuleius Metamorphoses.
For the continuous pagan references to the Roman and Greek gods, esoteric references contained in the text and images, the real author remains definitely unknown, although the acrostic “Pólya Frater Franciscus Columna Peramavit” seems to indicate clearly just the name of Francesco Colonna.
Yeah, and because of these dangerous content in suspicious times, the book can be relegated to the dark and “infamous” Index of Forbidden Books. But the Hypnerotomachia Poliphili is simply a wonderful book. Because even today we live in suspicious times, and this is a book for those who have the courage to face their own metamorphosis into the “multitudes”.

The books are all handmade: printed, trimmed, sewn, and positioned in the press for the first impression. The paper protrusions at the margins are hand trimmed and leveled. The head and foot are sewn with the "capitellum" and finally the cover is prepared. After this, if provided, the paper and cover are aged by hand with special colors. Once the book is finished, it is left to "rest" for at least half a day, packaged, and shipped. In short, it takes time...! :)

To obtain a well-made book, it takes time, sometimes several days of work, but you must take into account that when you place an order, there are several orders in the production queue before you, and this number is variable. That's why we always estimate a variable delivery period that can range from 4 up to a maximum of 8 weeks to make your order and ship it. But we can say that the 8 weeks are reached during peak demand periods, between November and December, sometimes between June and July.

We usually close for 20 days in August (in Italy the temperatures make life and work impossible!) and usually between December 20 and January 7.

That's why if you have special needs (birthday gifts, Christmas, etc.), please contact us before placing your order to get an estimate on delivery!
