De la Demonomania de gli Stregoni – Jean Bodin – 1587

De la Demonomania de gli Stregoni is an important occult text written by Jean Bodin in the sixteenth century, put on the Index of forbidden books since 1590 until the end of 1800. I propose this book in its entirety, completely bound by hand.

The 'Demonomania of Sorcerers' by Jean Bodin, published by Aldo Manuzio in 1587 (first edition, 1580 - 'Demonomanie de Sorceries') presents an analysis of witchcraft and demonology, and their influence on society and religion at the time. The text was placed on the Index of Forbidden Books from 1590 until 1887, and is divided into four main parts that explore the different curses of witches and demons, and how they should be combated by law. Despite being banned, the text continued to have a significant influence on society at the time. Its inclusion on the Index of Forbidden Books was due to the Church considering the themes heretical. The book explores witchcraft and demons in a detailed and analytical way, but the Church saw these topics as a threat to its authority and the religious order of the time. In particular, Bodin's book was considered dangerous because it suggested the existence of a vast network of witches operating within society, calling into question the Church's ability to protect the population from the forces of evil.

The books are all handmade: printed, trimmed, sewn, and positioned in the press for the first impression. The paper protrusions at the margins are hand trimmed and leveled. The head and foot are sewn with the "capitellum" and finally the cover is prepared. After this, if provided, the paper and cover are aged by hand with special colors. Once the book is finished, it is left to "rest" for at least half a day, packaged, and shipped. In short, it takes time...! :)

To obtain a well-made book, it takes time, sometimes several days of work, but you must take into account that when you place an order, there are several orders in the production queue before you, and this number is variable. That's why we always estimate a variable delivery period that can range from 4 up to a maximum of 8 weeks to make your order and ship it. But we can say that the 8 weeks are reached during peak demand periods, between November and December, sometimes between June and July.

We usually close for 20 days in August (in Italy the temperatures make life and work impossible!) and usually between December 20 and January 7.

That's why if you have special needs (birthday gifts, Christmas, etc.), please contact us before placing your order to get an estimate on delivery!
